Café Asta

Cafe Asta is one of those places in Valby that you will quickly want to return to. Located in the middle of the lively Valby Langgade, the café is a quiet gathering place where the history of the neighbourhood meets a relaxed and contemporary café atmosphere.

In the middle of Valby Langgade, Cafe Asta is a little oasis between city life, the cinema, and historic film studios. The café is part of the cosy Fy og Bi hotel, but it feels like its own place, where both hotel guests and Valby locals hang out at the small tables and in the sheltered courtyard.

The name is inspired by silent film star Asta Nielsen, and the film atmosphere is palpable when you sit just a few steps away from Nordisk Film and Valby Kino. Inside, the style is informal and classic with white tablecloths, candles and a quiet buzz of conversation, making it easy to linger a little longer than planned.

The menu changes with the seasons and offers everything from Asta brunch with yoghurt, pancakes, croissants and fried eggs to hearty Danish lunch favourites such as open sandwiches with roast beef, plaice or citrus herring. If you're more into café classics, the Asta burger, fish and chips or Havets bræt are safe bets that go perfectly with a glass of wine or a cold beer.

Cafe Asta is open every day from 10 a.m. until late in the evening, so you can start your day with brunch, meet up for an informal lunch or finish off a trip to the cinema with dessert and coffee. The evening dishes are written on the boards in the café, and if you want to stay up to date with new dishes and menus, their Instagram is worth following. In short, Café Asta is the place where everyday life in Valby gets a touch of movie glamour. In the summer, the courtyard is full of life, and the café is frequently used for birthdays, dinners with friends and small, informal gatherings throughout the day and evening.
