Slowburn Brewing Co-op

Within the walls of Albertslund's old prison, a community of idealists is brewing more than just beer. Slowburn Brewing Co-op is a cooperative brewery where passion, craftsmanship and democracy flow side by side in the minds of its members.

Slowburn Brewing Co in Albertslund is a worker-owned microbrewery with a clear goal. Good beer, community and transparency. The brewery is currently located in the former Vridsløselille Prison, which has been transformed into the cultural hub Porten, providing a distinctive backdrop for the beer experience with raw brick walls, light wells and a sunny beer garden. Slowburn opened in 2019 and is run as a cooperative by a small team of people who own the business and make decisions collectively. In the spring of 2023, they opened a large taproom in the prison, where community is cultivated through art, music, food, knowledge and, of course, beer.

The selection on tap varies between crisp lagers, hop-focused IPAs, round stouts and playful mixed-fermented beers. The philosophy is simple. Quality, consistency and drinkability, supported by care throughout the entire process from raw ingredients to fermentation. The names are both humorous and locally rooted, such as the fresh Albertslund Terror Pils, which has become a small cult hit among regulars.

You can drop by from Wednesday to Sunday, when the bar is bustling with life, or pick up their bottles and cans at selected shops and bars around the country. The place is more than just a brewery. It is a meeting place in a historic building complex, where volunteers, curious neighbours and beer nerds come together to discuss craftsmanship and new ideas. When the sun hits the courtyard and glasses clink between the cells, you understand why Slowburn has made its mark on the beer map west of Copenhagen. They organise concerts, talks, tastings and pop-ups that bring the neighbourhood together and create a sense of community.
