Frederiksberg is an independent municipality within the City of Copenhagen and has its own city council and mayor. Frederiksberg has a history of being a green and posh area and is still home to beautiful parks, luxury flats, lots of delis and high scale stores.

Gammel Kongevej

Gammel Kongevej is the main shopping street in Frederiksberg. Along the street - on both sides - you will find shops back to back. Clothing for men and women, delicacies, interior designs and antiques. The street runs from Vesterport Station in central Copenhagen to central Frederiksberg.

Flea market on Frederiksberg in CopenhagenAt the end of Gammel Kongevej you will find Frederiksberg City Hall. Behind the City Hall at the parking lot there is a large and very popular flea market every Saturday from April to October. Here you can find second hand clothing, furniture and porcelain.

Værnedamsvej

Værnedamsvej is a little piece of Paris with a special feeling. Earlier Værnedamsvej was known for its many butcher shops. But another one of the old butcher shops is made into a restaurant, Les trios Cochons, with the original butcher shop interior.

Nowadays Værnedamsvej is home to restaurants, cafées and delicacy shops. Though Værnedamsvej is quite short it is full of life and atmosphere. Værnedamsvej runs from Gammel Kongevej to Frederiksberg Allé.

Frederiksberg Allé (Frederiksberg Avenue)

Frederiksberg Allé is a true avenue with trees along the road on both sides. Frederiksberg Allé has always been an amusement area.

Today the very classy Frederiksberg Allé is still home to two theatres, a venue for live music and several bars. Frederiksberg Allé runs from Vesterbrogade to Frederiksberg Gardens.

Frederiksberg Gardens is a big French baroque park at Frederiksberg Palace. In the summer time the park is very popular for sun bathing and picnics or romantic trips in a row boat.

Besides the swans and peacocks in the park, you can see elephants because Copenhagen Zoo is located in the corner of Frederiksberg Gardens, and from the park you can see the elephants up close in their new spectacular house.

Zoo - ElefantungeFrederiksberg is a green part of town. Besides Frederiksberg Gardens, there are Horto cultural garden, a part of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Søndermarken, where you will find the old water reservoir, Cisternerne.

Cisternerne is a 4,000 square metre underground reservoir from the 18 Century and now home to a Museum of Modern Glass Art.
