The Little Mermaid
If you arrive at Langelinie you are approx. 1 kilometre from the Little Mermaid, which is considered one of Copenhagen’s major sights. The statue is easy accessible along a boardwalk. When you disembark the cruise ship just follow the street (with the ocean on your left side at all times) and you will find the statue. Buy a snack or a drink from one the shops close by the Little Mermaid and remember to take pictures!
After taking pictures at the Little Mermaid you can head over to Kastellet, where you can find a free public restroom, which is accessible by wheelchair. The restroom is located at the Langelinie Park. When you have seen the Little Mermaid and Kastellet, head over to Amalienborg Palace, which is the official residence of the Danish Royal Family. The changing of the Royal Guards is a must-see and takes place in front of Amalienborg Palace every day at 12 noon. Amalienborg Palace is located 1,1 kilometres from the Little Mermaid.
When you have seen the changing of the Royal Guards at Amalienborg Palace, why not visit the Designmuseum Denmark, which is located approx. 400 meters from Amalienborg Palace. Here, you can experience Danish design classics like Poul Henningsen and Arne Jacobsen. The museum also has a café where you can taste the famous Danish open-faced sandwiches. You can get around the main floor of the museum in a wheelchair, and access exhibits, the café, the shop, and the library. Unfortunately, the museum has no elevator to the first floor, where the conference facilities, assembly hall, and porcelain collection are located.
If you have time, head to Nyhavn, which is the city’s iconic heritage harbour with quaint townhouses and old schooners. Relax at Nyhavn, enjoy the lively and maritime atmosphere and have a drink at one of the many restaurants. The restaurants at Nyhavn are wheelchair accessible if you sit outside, but please bear in mind that many restaurants have stairs at the entrance.
Going back to Langelinie
Now it is probably time to head back to Langelinie in time to return to your cruise ship. Langelinie is located approx. 2,5 kilometers from Nyhavn, so you can either walk this distance, take public transportation or take a taxi. All taxis should accept collapsible wheelchairs free of charge. We recommend the following two taxi companies:
