On this trip, which takes you south of Elsinore, you really get the chance to experience the modern art and architecture of North Sealand. You pass Jørn Utzon’s Kingo Houses, Krogerup Folk High School,  the organic food retailer Årstiderne’s farm shop, the marinas at Sletten, Snekkersten and Espergærde, and end up at Louisiana. Note also Lin Utzon’s embellishment of the water purification plant.

The area is inhabited by wealthy people, so enjoy the beautiful homes and well-kept gardens along the way, and drink a cool glass of white wine at one of the many cafés.

The highlight of the day: Louisiana

Louisiana is located on the coast of North Sealand in a big old park overlooking Øresund Sound and the coast of Sweden.

The museum’s collection includes contemporary art by international artists such as Arp, Francis Bacon, Calder, Dubuffet, Max Ernst, Sam Francis, Giacometti, Kiefer, Henry Moore, Picasso, Rauschenberg and Warhol.

Louisiana is not only experienced as a collection of contemporary art, but also as an interplay between art, architecture and landscape. And for the kids there is the Children’s Wing, which is a space just for them at the museum offering creative activities spread over three floors. Every day, there are open workshops where children aged 4–16 can work creatively, paint, draw, model and explore the working methods and expression of the adult artists.

The park provides an ideal setting for the museum’s collection of modern sculptures, and the unique museum buildings, constructed between 1958 and 1998, offer a fascinating framework for the permanent collection of 20th century art.
