Leonard Cohen exhibition: A Crack in Everything

Kunstforeningen GL STRAND and Nikolaj Kunsthal are pleased to announce a spectacular international contemporary art exibition inspired by the life and work of Leonard Cohen.

Some 40 international contemporary artists and musicians interpret Leonard Cohen’s life and work in a comprehensive exhibition, setting new standards for the encounter between music, literature and visual art in a contemporary art exhibition which can be experienced at the two galleries located close by each other.

International artists such as Candice Breitz, Tacita Dean, Taryn Simon, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller as well as musicians such as Moby, The National with Sufjan Stevens, Ragnar Kjartansson, Richard Reed Parry, Socalled, Feist, Julia Holter and many more contribute to the comprehensive exhibition. All works have been created exclusively for the exhibition.

In their own special way, each of the artists communicate the unique manner in which the world-renowned Canadian combined text and music. Included is a large installation which highlights fifty years of Cohen concerts and a special video installation which invites spectators to experience Cohen’s reflections, thoughts and ideas close up.

Kunstforeningen Gl Strand is a modern exhibition hall with an extensive history. Gl Strand was renovated in 2010 and has reopened its doors for a newly refurbished and future exhibition space. The goal is to stay abreast of the newest tendencies within Danish and international contemporary art, the key objective being the support of young artists. They aim at propagating the understanding of art in general through exhibitions of contemporary art. Thus, the visions today are no different from when Gl Strand was founded in 1825.
