blossom trees in the spring

The changing seasons of Copenhagen

With its distinct seasons, Copenhagen is great to visit all year round. Experience how the city changes with each season and make way for unique things to see and do.

Spring in Copenhagen

The city comes alive as the trees blossom and the Copenhageners shift from indoor “hygge” to embracing the outdoors as the weather gets milder. The cafes and restaurants move to outdoor serving, fleamarkets fill up the city squares on weekends, and people take their first chilling plunge in the harbour.

Summer in Copenhagen

Copenhagen becomes a pulsating outdoor capital, as Copenhageners dive into the clean harbour water, eating ice cream while soaking up every bit of the sun. And the green and urban spots are filled with people enjoying an after-work beer on long and light nights.

Autumn in Copenhagen

The city shifts from the late summery days into the more wet and windy ones and kickstarts the season of “hygge”. The trees put on their beautiful orange coat, while Copenhageners put on their layers on the crispy days and move inside to explore museum activities and exhibitions.

Winter in Copenhagen

Copenhagen turns into a winter wonderland. Copenhageners indulge in the great (and cold) outdoor activities, embracing the ice swimming in the harbour and warming up on the many goodies Copenhagen bakeries and cafes offer during the winter.

Christmas in Copenhagen

The city becomes a magical, fairytale-like place where Christmas lights illuminate the short and dark days. “Hygge” reaches its peak time, and traditional customs are mixed with fun experiences when Christmas markets fill up the squares and outdoor ice rinks pop up around town.
