Located just west of Copenhagen is Roskilde, a historical city which also happens to be home to The Viking Ship Museum - and the only place in the world where you can go sailing in an actual Viking ship. Here are five things that make this place the definitive destination for Viking lovers
#1 You can conquer the seas like one
The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde began with the discovery of several sunken ships in the nearby fjord in the 1960s. Fast forward to today, and several ships have been reconstructed and are now as seaworthy as any boat out there.
#2 And it's the only place in the world where you can do it
In case anyone is still in doubt about which of the Nordic countries is most serious about its Viking heritage, this should settle the debate once and for all.

#3 You can eat and drink like they did
The Viking ships aren’t the only way The Viking Ship Museum has reconstructed the Viking way of life. They also do food tastings, and ‘mead’ (an ancient alcoholic beverage based on fermented honey) deserves an honourable mention as well.
#4 You can study their history
Apart from the reconstructions, the museum also boasts a serious collection of very well-preserved (and very real) ship remains – some of which date back nearly a thousand years.
#5 You can admire the world's biggest reconstructed Viking ship
Havhingsten (‘The Sea Stallion’) is the world’s biggest reconstructed Viking ship, accommodating a crew of 60 people. And of course, it’s also based in Roskilde – at least when it’s not out doing raids.
