Green spots in the city

Copenhagen has a number of green areas, where you can relax, sunbathe or have a picnic. Several parks also have fine playgrounds for the kids.

Kongens haveKongens Have (The King's Garden)
This is the park surrounding the Rosenborg Castle. From early spring, as soon as the first warm rays of sun come shining through, you will see Copenhageners come here to spread out their blankets, lean back and soak up the sun.

Here you will also find a delightful playground for the children with carved wooden figures and a small Punch and Judy Theatre giving performances during the school vacation daily at 2 and 3pm, except on Mondays. Close to the playground there are public toilets and a small café, where you can buy ice cream, sandwiches and beverages.

Frederiksberg Have
Surrounding the Frederiksberg Palace from the 18th century is a large park known as Frederiksberg Have. The beautifully laid out grounds have a Chinese gazebo, open spaces, a lake and the canals, where you can be rowed a short tour of approximately 20 minutes in boats with room for up to 14 persons. There is also a children's playground for the youngest.

Fælledparken  Fælledparken
Here is a park, which is meant to be used. 'Fælleden', translated The Common, was formerly grazing land for cattle. Today it is used all year for ball games, meetings, parties and concerts. In one area chess players in deep concentration pass the time and in another there is a large playground with swings, seesaws, huts and a big skater track for the younger crowd. In the middle of Fælledparken is a pavillon transformed into a café. Here you can have lunch or an evening cup of coffee. Every Wednesday during the summer there is free Salsa training, and Thursdays and Fridays offer live music for dancing from 8 to 10pm.

Skydebanehaven

Coming from Istedgade, behind a large fort-like gate, is the district of Vesterbro's secret oasis. Old age pensioners come for a stroll, and kids come to play in this 'wonderland' with a large, almost 16 square metre, wading pool, a fenced in ball game course, tunnel pipes and a paved area ideal for playing hopscotch and rope skipping.
