Beaches in the city
Although Copenhagen is a big city there are plenty of possibilities if you fancy a swim in the blue sea. The harbour baths with their clean water at Islands Brygge and Fisketorvet in the middle of the city stare you in the face. Children's basins are to be found in both places. Do you want a 'real' beach with sand between your toes then take a trip to Amager Beach Park. Here you will find many activities in and around the constructed shallow lagoons. If you have older kids then visit the nearby architect-designed Kastrup Sea Bath with its beautiful bathing platform "The Snail". The platform is built on 150 poles in the water, and the water is two - four and a half metres deep.

If you want to take the kids to a beach a little further outside the city you will find even more options to choose from. Bellevue Beach in Klampenborg is a large and popular beach park with a long sandy beach, large green areas with trees standing apart providing shadow and various bathing jetties. Charlottenlund Beach Park is likewise a lareg and popular sandy beach with sunbed and water bicycle rentals. If you prefer a smaller beach then Hellerup Beach is just that with plenty of sand and few stones. The children has to go way out before the water gets deep, and there is a big playground with swings. Frederiksdal Fribad in Virum also offers a cosy sandy beach with shallow water and a bathing jetty to the deep water. In addition there is lots of room for picnics, playing and relaxing.
Beaches outside the city
The best beaches with sand dunes are on the north coast. Tisvildeleje Beach is 12 kilometres long and has the sought-after Blue Flag, which means the water is in perfect condition. There is plenty of room for everyone, dunes to play hide and seek in and lovely clean water for the kids to play and swim in. There are no stones on the beach, and the sand is fine-grained. Along the same coastline you will find Liseleje Beach with some dunes and the shallow Dronningmølle Beach. On the east coast is the shallow Nivå Beach Park, the small and cosy Peder Mads Beach with green areas, shallow water and a sandy bottom as far as the eye can see, and the shallow Snekkersten Beach with a lot of children and a very local and relaxed feel to it.
