Many attractions and guided tours in Copenhagen focus on the environment and ecology, either by internal procedures, or by communicating knowledge about sustainability and the environment.

Eco-TaxiEco-Taxi

This bike will certainly attract attention on the streets of Copenhagen. The CO2 neutral conference bicycle was invented by the artist Eric Staller and is a seven person, human powered means of transportation. The bike has adjustable seats so that both children and adults can ride on it.

Eco-Taxi serves as general taxi service, but can also be ordered for guided city tours of Copenhagen's sights. The freely rotating pedals mean you can work as much or little as you want. And if you want to take a rest, you just let go of your pedals. It costs DKK 300 per 15 minutes plus a transportation fee to rent an Eco-Taxi. You must hire it for at least half an hour and book online in advance. Please find link at bottom of this page.

Energy and electricity is an indispensable part of everyday life, but it is important to reduce the present consumption. At Experimentarium children and adults can experience how much fun it can be to save energy, and they can get acquainted with the energy technology development. Get answers to questions about what the various technologies are good at, and where they have their limitations.

Det økologiske inspirationshusHouse of organic inspiration

Next door to the theatre Riddersalen in the heart of Frederiksberg in Copenhagen is Det Økologiske Inspirationshus (House of Organic Inspiration).

The house is a place of inspiration and offers a long list of organic initiatives, like a compost toilet, a mass oven, a solar collector, plants and a bio water purifying plant with sand, stones and plants, where the water is cleansed, after it has been turned into waste water in the miniature washing machines. Here you will find inspiration on how to make your home an organic one.

The house is open to all, and if time permits, manager Hanne Andersen will gladly tell you about the organic philosophy behind the house, but if you want to be sure to get a guided tour of the house, it is best to call ahead. Tours for adults and children can be conducted in English.

TivoliTivoli

Tivoli Gardens in the heart of Copenhagen has set out to become the world's first amusement park on wind energy in 2010. Therefore Tivoli cooperates with Danish DONG Energy to cut power consumption in the Gardens. You can already see the first power-saving initiatives. LED lights have replaced ordinary light bulbs in the Chinese Tower, and the same applies to The Hanging Gardens and the square in front of the Pantomime Theatre.

As an experiment the Tivoli bus Line 8 runs on rape seed oil as fuel throughout 2009 instead of diesel. Tivoli also has a waste management and recycling plan.

You will probably also notice the Tivoli's reusable cup system with a deposit system where you pay DKK 5 for your cup, when you buy a drink. You will of course get your money back when you hand in your plastic cup in the machines. In addition, more than half of the cleaning products in the Tivoli has the Scandinvian eco label the Swan.
