Cruise ships dock at two locations in Copenhagen: at the Langelinie Pier and in the Free Port.
From Langelinie
Langelinie is the name of a long pier reaching into the Copenhagen Harbour; thus the name, which means 'the long line'. On foot, you can stroll downtown in aproximately 30 minutes and unlike many other dock areas, it is a pleasant walk. You walk through a park with fine flower beds and through a district of Copenhagen close to the Royal Palace and therefore quite fashionable.
From Free Port Terminal
... the walk is somewhat longer - this will take from ab. 50 minutes to an hour. But again, it is not an unpleasant walk, part of it is through residencial areas.
Public transportation
In both above-mentioned cases there will be taxis available or you can choose public transportation. Bus No 26 will bring you downtown (i.e. to the large square Kongens Nytorv*) in 15 minutes from Langelinie . This same bus No 26 also goes through Kalkbrænderihavnsgade - a street which passes whithin three minutes' walking distance from the Freeport Terminal.
*Kongens Nytorv is a fine place to start off your exploration of the city. Here is the Royal Theatre. This is where the small picturesque canal of Nyhavn with many sidewalk cafés and restaurants leads out from as does the main pedestrian shopping street known as Strøget. Finally Magasin, one of Copenhagen's largest department stores, is located on Kongens Nytorv.
City Hall Square
You can also choose to stay on the bus and get off at the the other large square in the city of Copenhagen. Most of the city sights and attractions can be found in the area between these two main squares.
Finally, shuttle buses are usually available right outside the vessels. Contact your cruise line directly for information.
