Several Copenhagen streets are known for the many retro interior design- and furniture shops where second hand classical Danish design furniture and antiques are for sale. These are Bredgade and Læderstræde in the city center, Ravnsborggade in the district of Nørrebro and Nordre Frihavnsgade in the district of Østerbro.
Bredgade in City
Bredgade leads off from Kongens Nytorv and is a street where there are many antique dealers and classical design furniture stores. Here you will find furniture by Børge Mogensen, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner and Verner Panton, architects and designers who have all contributed to Denmark's fine reputation as a design country. Bredgade also has numerous galleries and small boutiques with glass, jewellery, porcelain, Georg Jensen silverware, scultpures and paintings.
Ravnsborggade in the district of Nørrebro
In the area around Ravnsborggade, Ryesgade, Skt. Hansgade and Sortedams Dosseringen there are a number of retro shops with retro furniture, antiques, second hand Danish design, French refectory tables and candlesticks. Ravnsborggade is the main street. It runs parallel to the Lakes, where you can easily find a pleasant spot to take a break from your shopping.
Nordre Frihavnsgade in the district of Østerbro
On Østerbro there is another street with many interesting shops. Here you will find flowered porcelain, old advertisement signs and furniture by some of the top architects of the 50's - Eames and Arne Jacobsen. Nordre Frihavnsgade goes from Østerbrogade to the Nordhavn S-Train Station. Especially close to the station the furniture and interior design shops have congregated. Try Props Gallery in No. 90 with a poster gallery in the back or Oldies in No. 73 that has specialized in retro radios.
Green Square on Amager
