District of Vesterbro

Vesterbro, Copenhagen's former working class district, has become one of the city's most hip areas.  The far end of Istedgade is a must for those seeking unusual fashion design. Many up-and-coming designers of clothing have established themselves with interesting boutiques and workrooms in the back. Parallel Vesterbrogade follows up with a number of good special shops.

Istedgade

If you are looking for clothing, which you are sure not to see others wearing, Istedgade is the place to look. Strassen, as Istedgade is called by the locals, starts by the Central Station and ends at Enghave Plads (square).

You should, however, go towards Enghave Plads passing Absalonsgade before you get to the interesting part.

Small, trendy boutiques with unique design, new Danish Design and clothing from young, lesser known, foreign designers are found here as pearls on a string. Here you can find  vintage models, beautiful corsage dresses, colourful accessories and much more.

In several side streets, such as Valdemarsgade and Oehlenschlaegersgade, small galleries add to the atmosphere of a creative and imaginative environment.

Vesterbrogade

Parallel to Istedgade, is Vesterbrogade that leads west from the City Hall Square towards Roskildevej. Here the boutiques are somewhat more spread out compared to Istedgade, but the nearer you get Roskildevej the more small special boutiques you will find.

One shop deserves special mention: Designer Zoo. This is a mixture of a designer commune with a number of workshops for eight designers and a shop. Tables, ceramics, clothing, glass and jewellery are among the articles created and sold here.
