Together with Lars von Trier, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen and Kristian Levring, Thomas Vinterberg is the initiator of Dogme 95, which had the purpose of adding unpredictability and authenticity to movies. Dogme 95 has now been released on the net after its ten year anniversary and 35 productions, where ten movies have been Danish. Vinterberg directed the first movie after the dogmatic concept in 1998, called Festen (the Party), which received great acknowledgement and won the jury's special prize in Cannes. Thomas Vinterberg's international debut was in 2002 with It's All About Love, and in 2005 his Dear Wendy was released. The Danish director recently received a national prize for constantly surprising and exciting the audience. Other outstanding Danish film directors are: Bille August, Susanne Bier and afore mentioned Lars von Trier. |
