Theatre

Copenhagen is a mecca for theater-goers and culture lovers.

The city offers a varied repertoire of performances, from ballets, plays, musicals and operettas to modern circus and experimental theater in the city's smaller stages.

In 2008, the Royal Theatre’s and Danish theatre’s new The Royal Danish Playhouse opened at Kvæsthusbroen by the Copenhagen harbour front. The playhouse contains two theatres – a large one with seating for 650 people and a smaller one with seating for 150 – as well as a restaurant, a café, and a large boardwalk with a view over the rest of the waterfront.

Anemone teatret is a small family theater in Copenhagen.

The theatre is designed by the famous Arne Jacobsen.

DANSEhallerne in Copenhagen is the largest center for modern dance in Northern Europe.

One of Denmark's largest theatres is located in Copenhagen. The theatre mainly performs musicals.

The Edison Stage is a studio annex to the Betty Nansen Theatre and also home to C:NTACT, a theatre workshop offering supervised professional training to an ethnically diverse group of young people.

Folketeatret is Denmarks oldest, public theater.

The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen has graced the Kongens Nytorv Square since 1748. The Royal Theatre's has three main venues at its disposal: The Opera House, the Playhouse, and the Old Stage, the latter almost exclusively for ballet performances.

Søren Kierkegaard was a frequent guest at The Royal Theatre, where he heard Mozart's Don Juan.

Since 1966 'Det Lille Teater' in Copenhagen has made kids scream and gasp and laugh their hearts out. It offers an excellent introduction to theater.

It is often established actors who find their way to Det Lille Teater to do their best to entertain the young crowd.

The Theatre Museum is situated in the Old Court Theatre. Its collection describes Danish theatre history from the 1700s to the present day.

17 January 1772 the theatre was also center stage for a dramatic event. It was after a masquerade ball at the court theatre that Queen Caroline Mathilde and her lover Johan Friedrich Struensee were arrested and charged with lèse-majesté.
