Østerbro

Are you looking for posh Copenhagen, then go to Østerbro. The district is characterized by expensive houses, broad boulevards and beautiful green areas.

Østerbro is located north of Copenhagen city centre. It is one of Copenhagen's most attractive and expensive living areas, which also reflects the range of exclusive designer shops.

Østerbro is home to the national stadium: Parken, and right next to it is Denmark’s largest public park: Fælledparken. Fælledparken is used all year round for play and fun, sun bathing, strolls, gatherings, parties, outdoor theatre and concerts.

Geranium is one of Copenhagen's two two-starred Michelin-starred restaurants. It was also ranked the 45th Best Restaurant in the World in 2013 by Fine Dining Lovers, and is run by the world's best chef in 2011 Rasmus Kofoed.

Andersen Bakery is located in Copenhagen's Østerbro area. For over 50 years, the bakery has been faithful to the Danish baking tradition.

But actually it is the Japanese baker Shunsuke Takaki, who is behind the goodies. In the bakery, you will find everything from pastry, cakes and bread to take with you, or you can sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and cake or bread roll.

The Monument for Denmark’s International Effort Since 1948 by artist Finn Reinbothe was erected by the Danish people and inaugurated on Flag Day 5 September 2011.

It expresses the acknowledgement of the contributions made by thousands of deployed Danes in international missions since 1948.

A cool prize winning design store located in an old 1700 m2 cinema at Østerbro.

Here you can find Normann design - furniture, vases, chairs etc. Expect traditional materials put into untraditional use such as a washing-up bowl in rubber, a vase made out of Silicon and a dog made out of plastic.

Parken is Denmark's national stadium and venue for big concerts and events. This is where the national football team plays its home games, and where the successful club, FC Copenhagen, has its home ground.

In June 2010 Østerbro got the new beach, Svanemøllestranden.

The beach has a 130 meter long pier into the water.

The Citadel in Copenhagen was founded by Danish King Christian IV in 1626. You will find it on the border of inner Copenhagen and the area of Østerbro.

Johan Friedrich Struensee was arrested on the night of 17 January 1772 and placed under arrest at the Citadel, where he stayed until his trial, where he 21 February was questioned and subsequently convicted of treachery for his affair with Queen Caroline Mathilde.

The Danish Order of Freemasons (The Grand Lodge of Denmark) is located on Blegdamsvej in the Østerbro area of Copenhagen. It was designed by Danish Freemason and architect Holger Rasmussen.

During World War II the Grand Lodge was occupied by German police and functioned as The Schalburg Corps' headquarters. The Schalburg Corps consisted of Danes in German service, whose job was to collect information that would lead to the arrest of Danish resistance fighters.

Østre Gasværk Teater is established inside an old gasometer from 1883 designed by Martin Nyrop. 

Since 1976 Østre Gasværk Teater has presented a variety of shows like “West Side Story”, “Les Miserables” and “Romeo & Juliet”.
