Borgen

"It's brilliant, it's Danish – and it's got knitwear! It's Borgen, the new The Killing". These are the words by Sam Wollaston, The Guardian January 7, 2012.

We are talking about "Borgen", the Danish hit tv series, and the nickname of Christiansborg Palace, the Danish parliament, which is the main location in the series.

In Copenhagen you can take yourself on a tour in the footsteps of politician Birgitte Nyborg, who in the drama series, unexpectedly becomes the first female prime minister of Denmark.

Like "The Killing", "Borgen" were broadcasted successfully at British television at BBC4. "Borgen" is a thriller too, this time a political one, and again with a female lead. Like "The Killing" it is produced by DR, the Danish public broadcaster. In May it has won the International award at the 2012 BAFTA Television Awards.

The series has so far been produced in 20 episodes, but DR has announced that a third season is scheduled for the spring of 2013.

In "Borgen" Bernstoff Castle is the setting for The Primeminister's official mansion, Marienborg.

You can visit the castle - enjoy a nice brunch buffet in royal surroundings, join a guided tour of the castle or even stay the night.

Christiansborg Palace houses the Danish Parliament, Supreme Court, and Ministry of State. It is also used by the Royal Family for various functions and events.

Copenhagen Business School, CBS, is an international school, focused on developing strong links between contemporary research and the active business community.

In the Danish tv series "Borgen" it is where Phillip (aka Mikael Birkkjær) works.

Copenhagen City Hall is built in the years 1892-1905 and designed by the architect Martin Nyrop.

In the Danish television series "The Killing" the Copenhagen City Hall is the office of Troels Hartmann, and in "Borgen" the interior is the offices of The Moderate party.

Ebert's residential neighborhood on the island of Amager is the privat home of Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg and husband Phillip in the TV series Borgen.

The area is characterised by its large, beautiful houses and stands today as a hidden gem in an otherwise busy area.

The Black Diamond is an extension to the Royal Library in Copenhagen. The building also houses The National Museum of Photography, a bookshop, eateries and a concert and theatre hall.

At the Black Diamond, you can see Søren Kierkegaard's manuscripts which are kept safely in Royal Library's Søren Kierkegaard Archive.

The staircase is the scene in "Borgen" on the night of the election.

Folketinget is the name of Denmark's parliament, which is located in a historical setting at Christiansborg Palace, often just called Borgen (the castle in Danish), on the island of Slotsholmen in Copenhagen.

The Danish parliament has always been surrounded by mystery and conspiracy theories. Many films such as the Danish Kongekabale (King's Game), and Danish TV series such as The Killing and Borgen have played out in the corridors of Christiansborg.

The Garden of The Royal Library is located between Christiansborg Castle and the Royal Library.

In the garden you can see the fountain where Birgitte Nyborg and Bent Sejrø often meet up in the tv series "Borgen".

Mediterranean-inspired church architecture.

The interior of The Jesus Church you can see in the tv series "Borgen" during one funeral.
