Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2006

The Copenhagen Jazz Festival hits the streets on the first Friday in July and lasts for 10 days. Headliners are Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Sergio Mendes and Salif Keita. Also Dee Dee Bridgewater and rising star Jamie Cullum will perform.

This summer's edition of Copenhagen Jazz Festival starts out at The Royal Opera on Friday July 7 with an exclusive concert presenting one of the biggest jazz legends of all times - the 66 years old pianist Herbie Hancock. Other international performers are Pat Metheny, Sergio Mendes, Salif Keita, Dee Dee Bridgewater and rising star Jamie Cullum.

850 Concerts
The festival runs for 10 days until July 16 and includes approx. 850 concerts by Danish and international jazz artists. The performances begin in the morning and continue during the day and late evening. Many of the concerts are performed in the streets, on historic places/squares and along the canals of Copenhagen. Most of these concerts are free, and with help from the official programme you can easily plan your own jazz tour through Copenhagen.

Clubs and Small Cafes
The clubs and small cafes in Copenhagen are a vital part of the jazz festival. In the evening they present a large varied programme of high quality that represents many different kinds of jazz music ranging from New Orleans Jazz, swing and fusion to new experimental music. The most international and well-known jazz club in Copenhagen is the Copenhagen JazzHouse.

Around the City
Major events during Copenhagen Jazz Festival are big jazz concerts performed by international and Danish top artists. These concerts take place in different concerts halls around the city. The Royal Opera, Glassalen and Plænen in the Tivoli Garden, Vega and Copenhagen JazzHouse are some of the venues that will be in use for 2006. Copenhagen Jazz Festival has earlier presented some of the world's top jazz artist.

Unconventional Venues
But the Copenhagen Jazz Festival is also; street parades every day, concerts and workshops for children, special events with the new sound in jazz, concerts in the wonderful churches of Copenhagen, late night concerts, jazz concerts at the Harbour area and concerts at unconventional venues.

Intimate Atmosphere
When you visit our festival you will experience a festival where the close friendly contact between the audience and the musicians creates an intimacy, which is vital for the right atmosphere, high-standard performances and exciting music. In 2005 more than 600 musicians performed during the festival - and more than 240.000 people enjoyed the music and special ambiance of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
