Kim Utzon Designs New Hotel in the Port of Copenhagen

The Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, over five decades successful in rebuilding existing properties at the best corners of Copenhagen, is now creating an attractive corner of its own by erecting a unique hotel product, the Copenhagen Island. This hotel will be given a great location on a newly created island having access bridges from Kalvebod Brygge at the Copenhagen waterfront.

In the summer of 2006 Copenhagen will gain a new island and a new hotel! Modern and exquisite design and an amazing location on an artificial island in the Copenhagen Harbour are features that make the Copenhagen Island the ideal starting point for a visit to Copenhagen.

Designed by Kim Utzon
Architect Kim Utzon has been carefully chosen for this challenge. He has given evidence that he knows how to create buildings offering a great sense of water, light, and sky in a soft and pleasing manner. The Arp-Hansen Group feels strongly about the light effect being absolutely right while the building should be spectacular so that the location by the waterfront will convey the sense of a special treat to our guests.

Without Comparison
The Copenhagen Island will be a state-of-the-art hotel in a most attractive design, with an unrivalled view of the port. The extraordinary architecture and the many luxurious facilities of Copenhagen Island will make the hotel unique and not comparable to other hotels. We have deliberately chosen to underline this fact by not having the hotel classified by official stars but instead letting the hotel experience speak for itself.

7-Storey Glass Tower
The landmark of this hotel will be a 7-storey glass tower. In its ground plan this tower will contain the rendezvous of the hotel - the lobby, which will be the first to welcome our guests. This tower will also work as an appealing link between the two wings of the hotel and allow for a fine view of the port as well as of the roofs of the city when our guests pass the suspended footbridges.

Unique Hotel, Building and Location
Like with the other hotels of our group; Phoenix Copenhagen, 71 Nyhavn Hotel, Imperial Hotel, Grand Hotel, The Square, Copenhagen Strand, Hotel Opera, Hotel Astoria, and Gentofte Hotel, the Copenhagen Island is based on the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group hotel operation philosophy: A unique hotel, in a unique building, with a unique location.

The Copenhagen Island will lower the leaf of the bridge and open its doors to its first guests as from the summer of 2006.
