All the Best from Copenhagen's Music Scene in One Week

From Friday October 27th and all the following week Copenhagen is dedicated to music. Copenhagen Music Week is an initiative, totally committed to bringing music lovers the best bands, venues, and DJ's. The event is an opener for the MTV European Music Awards, which this year is hosted by the Danish capital.

Over the past decade Copenhagen has enjoyed an abundance of top bands such as The Raveonettes, Mew, Junior Senior, Trentemøller and major festivals like The Roskilde Festival, The Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Distortion. It has also enjoyed an active club scene with some of the most famous ones being VEGA, Culture Box and Loppen.

Booming Music Scene
The fact that MTV EMA is taking place in Copenhagen this year proves the point - this city has something to offer, and Copenhagen Music Week is a way of showcasing all the potent talent.

- Copenhagen music scene is booming. We have artists of high standards, which make the Danish music scene worth travelling for. As MTV has picked Copenhagen to host this year's Award Show, we feel compelled to gather the best from all music genres in one week. That is the concept of Copenhagen Music Week, says Martin Bender, head of events from Wonderful Copenhagen.

A number of Copenhagen venues and clubs are ready to become part of 'the Week'. Amongst them VEGA Nightclub, which has been named as one of the finest clubs of the world by two highly-esteemed DJ magazines, 'Muzik' and 'Jockey Slut'. Also newcomer Culture Box, Copenhagen's purist techno-club has brought the freshest names and most famous legends within the clubbing world; Matthew Jonson, Christian Vogel, The Orb, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Dj Koze, Luciano, Kenny Larkin, Derrick May, Miss Kittin, Superpitcher, Isolee and Peaches to the Copenhagen music scene. These are just a few of the names that came to rock Culture Box and Copenhagen.

The two credited old timers Roskilde Festival and Copenhagen Jazz Festival are partners that will make sure that Copenhagen Music Week will become a vibrant platform for the Danish and international music life.

International Musical Platform
- Established Danish music festivals like Roskilde Festival and Copenhagen Jazz Festival are part of making Copenhagen Music Week an international musical platform with room for both Danish and international artists. This is the thought process behind the music week, says Leif Skov, music consultant and founder of Roskilde Festival more than 30 years ago.

- We are participating in Copenhagen Music Week, because we are a part of the city's music scene. But it is also about presenting our club on an international stage when the whole music world is gathered in Copenhagen. During the week we are hosting one night, which represents the cream of Danish pop and rock, says Lars Skovgaard, head of programmes for VEGA Night Club.

25 per cent of Copenhageners are young people, which is a good sign of a city that has a lot to offer the youth of Europe. Budget Air Lines make it possible to discover Copenhagen's music scene for very little money.
