Copenhagen wins New York Festivals' gold award for best tourist film
Copenhagen has won the gold 'World Medal 2007' for the tourist film 'Copenhagen Kicking' at the New York Festivals Awards.
On Friday February 2 the international media turned its spotlight on Copenhagen as Wonderful Copenhagen accepted the prestigious New York Festivals' World Medal for Best Tourist Film 2007 in New York. Wonderful Copenhagen's entry for the festival, 'Copenhagen Kicking', was produced last year as a promotional film for the city.
The man behind the concept for the film is Wonderful Copenhagen's sales and marketing director, Ole Andersen, while the producers, Martin Kløft and Anders Kongshaug, from the organisation's film production department, were responsible for its production.
This is the tenth international prize for a promotional film that Wonderful Copenhagen has received for its marketing of the Danish capital since 2002, and the most prestigious so far. New York Festivals have recognised 'the World's Best Work' for 49 years in the fields of TV, radio and marketing. Wonderful Copenhagen won a bronze medal in New York in 2005 in the same category for a film about the Oresund Region, produced for a number of Swedish and Danish companies and organisations, but this year's gold medal has been awarded to a production that was conceived, developed and produced solely by the Copenhagen tourist organisation.
Ole Andersen says about the prize:
- The prize is a major recognition of our international marketing of Copenhagen. We are tremendously proud of this first place because it is awarded by a jury of professionals in the fields of marketing and commercial film and TV production. It stands out as being a prize awarded by a recognised festival that acknowledges films in many categories from many different trades.
Over the last decade Anders Kongshaug of Wonderful Copenhagen's film production department has produced numerous promotional films for companies and organisations within the Danish and Swedish cultural and tourism sectors. These include a wide range of Video News Releases distributed by, among others, Reuters, AP and Euronews to a worldwide TV audience.
International TV-producer, Anders Kongshaug, from Wonderful Copenhagen's film production department, responsible for the production of tourism related films and filmed press releases since Kulturby 96, comments:
- Since we began using film and television in our marketing of Copenhagen the interest in this form of marketing has grown tremendously, not least because of the success of the internet as a marketing medium. Companies use streamed promotional films on the net, and it is particularly important within the culture and tourism fields to be able to put images to the experiences you are offering.
Last year Wonderful Copenhagen produced 91 VNRs, promotional films and other productions. Via Wonderful Copenhagen's international distribution to TV worldwide, filmed press releases reached an average audience of 42 million viewers.
