Copenhagen Jazz Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary
The Copenhagen Jazz Festival has been around for 30 years - a great success that naturally deserves to be celebrated. This year's 30th anniversary edition of the festival takes place from 4 - 13 July and pays tribute to the freedom and fluctuations of jazz music and its treatment of musical aesthetics.
The Copenhagen Jazz festival has grown gradually over the past 30 years and today embraces around 900 concerts, 100 venues and over 200,000 guests from Denmark and around the world. The performances begin in the morning and continue during the day and late evening. Many of the concerts are performed in the streets, on historic places/squares and along the canals of Copenhagen. Most of these concerts are free, and with help from the official programme one can easily plan one's own jazz tour through Copenhagen. The clubs and small cafes in Copenhagen are a vital part of the jazz festival. In the evening they present a large varied programme of high quality that represents many different kinds of jazz music ranging from New Orleans Jazz, swing and fusion to new experimental music.
Programme 2008
Major events during Copenhagen Jazz Festival are big jazz concerts performed by international and Danish top artists. These concerts take place in different concerts halls around the city. The Royal Theatre, The Royal Opera, Glassalen and Plænen in the Tivoli Gardens, The Royal Library and Copenhagen JazzHouse are some of the venues that will be in use for 2008. The programme for 2008 presents among others Ornette Coleman, Wayne Shorter, Brad Mehldau, Charles Lloyd, Joe Lovano, Cassandra Wilson, Angelique Kidjo, Paul Bley and Little Jimmy Scott - just to mention a few. An entrance fee shall be expected for the major venues.
But the Copenhagen Jazz Festival is also; concerts and workshops for children, special events with the new sound in jazz, concerts in the museums of Copenhagen, late night concerts and jazz concerts at the harbour area. When you visit our festival you will experience a festival where the close friendly contact between the audience and the musicians creates an intimacy which is vital for the right atmosphere, high-standard performances and exciting music.
