Tourism is a major industry in Copenhagen. In 2004 the number of overnight stays in the Greater Copenhagen area amounted to 6.3 million bed nights. More than 300.000 of these were Americans, 14,1 % more than the year before.

New research from Copenhagens official touristboard Wonderful Copenhagen shows that American tourists are more active than any other groups of tourists. A large part of the American visiters are cruise guests.

Copenhagen and its near neighbour, Malmo in Sweden, together offer more than 165 hotels and 15.000 hotel rooms. Copenhagen city alone offers 12.230 rooms, with more in the pipeline.
