New Culture House for Elsinore

16 Sep 2010

Hamlet's castle, Kronborg, is getting a new neighbour. The old wharf is being transformed into a culture house. The Culture Yard opens on the tenth of the tenth 2010.

The old wharf buildings at the harbour have been transformed into the Culture Yard. Next to it, in a former dry dock, a modern maritime museum will be opened, while its famous neighbour, Kronborg Castle, is reflected in the glass prism of the Culture Yard's facade. The whole area is known as the Culture Harbour.

There are few places in Northern Europe with so much cultural history and unique architecture in one place, and together everything creates a perfect setting for storytelling, cultural innovation and staging events.

An intelligent building

It is an intelligent building with digital "experience platforms" and screens guiding visitors around on a stream of information. In the Culture Yard there is also a wharf museum and a large library packed with modern facilities. There is a large and a small theatre, arcades, a restaurant, exhibition room, meeting rooms and workshops. Inside the building, users can experience everything from music, shows, theatre, dance, presentations and debates, courses and workshops to literature and much more.

In the Culture Yard, you can find knowledge and contemplation in the library and experience the wharf's history in the museum. You can have a nice meal with friends in the restaurant with a view of Kronborg Castle, and afterwards hear a chamber concert in the Small Hall, watch theatre or attend a concert in the Large Hall. There are things to do for every taste and age group.

The theme for autumn and spring is "TRANSFORMATION". A theme which will illustrate many of the events and be a marker for clusters of events.
