City of bikes

Not only is Copenhagen host city for both UCI Road World Championships and UCI BMX World Championships in 2011, the Copenhageners are also known for being the world’s most biking crazy people!

35 % of all Copenhageners commute to work or study by bike, and in total Copenhageners bike 1.2 million kilometers a year, which quells a trip to the moon and back, twice.

The city has 390 kilometers of biking lane with special traffic lights for bicycles, and if you want to bike your way through Copenhagen when visiting hop on one of the many city bikes.



Cykelsekretariatet is a part of the governmental Traffic Department. Their aim is to secure a sustainable traffic culture for the future of Copenhagen.

The Cycling Embassy of Denmark is a comprehensive network of private companies, local authorities and non-governmental organizations working together to promote cycling and communicate cycling solutions and know-how.

Their mission is to encourage cycling all over the world.

The Danish Bicycle Union works toward improving and promoting bicycle sport in Denmark. They monitor and regulate the bicycle sport, to ensure that national and international laws of the cycling world are adhered to.
