One of the great glories of Copenhagen is its wonderful cafés, many of which are a match for the city's restaurants for the quality of food they serve and their interior design.
Copenhagen's cafés range from simple sandwich bars to the glamorous with elegant decor and jet set clientele.
Cafés transform into bars and mini-clubs
Many of Copenhagen's cafés are at the forefront of fashion, being trendy meeting places which transform into bars and, in some cases, mini-clubs with DJs and dance floors on the weekends. Others, meanwhile, are Bohemian bolt holes, dark and cosy, with a relaxed vibe.
City areas with cafés
Certain areas of the city have attracted certain types of cafés. The area around Sankt Hans Torv, for example, boasts several young trendy cafés that are usually packed to the ceiling on the weekends. Pisserenden, an area just to the north of Strøget, is good for inexpensive student venues, while Café Victor is at the centre of a lively 'cafe triangle' that also includes Cafe Sommersko and Dan Turéll.
Around the recently renovated Halmtorvet, a former red light district in Copenhagen, quite a number of streamlined cafés have opened. In the summer time, weather permitting, tables and serving move out onto the sidewalks.
So, if you are looking for a place to rest with a coffee while shopping or somewhere to spend a lively evening, Copenhagen's cafés are sure to supply whatever you are after.
