Long before the arrival of sushi, Copenhagen had a reputation for serving superb seafood. In fact, the town and its wealth were founded on the abundance of fish, mainly herring, that live in the nearby Øresund.
Sushi restaurants
Today, of course, there are several superb sushi restaurants in town, but more traditional fish restaurants also abound.
Traditionel fish restaurants
King of them all is Krogs Fiskerestaurant on Gammel Strand, right opposite the site of the old fish market.
Krogs kitchen is classically French, but in other restaurants you will find that traditional Danish cuisine also relies heavily on the sea for its fresh ingredients. On menus throughout the city you will find traditional herring dishes and other fresh seafood.
