From 1 January 2006 it has been resolved that visitors should be given free admission to state-run museums throughout the country. In Copenhagen this means that, from now on, you can study the history of Denmark at the National Museum and 700 years of European art at the Statens Museum for Kunst (i.e. The National Gallery) for free.
Other museums belonging to the National Museum are included in this provision such as the Liberty Museum, The Open Air Museum in Lyngby and the Museum of Music History.
Increase in visitors
After a trial period, which clearly resulted in an increase in the number of visitors, it has been decided to make the provision permanent.
Special exhibitions
Not only admission to the permanent exhibitions will henceforth be free in the above-mentioned museums, so will the special exhibitions.
