The three lakes which run through Copenhagen are one of the oldest and most characteristic landmarks of the city.
The artificial lakes are divided into five bassins and were for a period of time used as a drinking water reserve. Since 1959 the area has mostly been used for recreational activities.
A favourite Copenhagen hangout
Today the Lakes are a very popular place to take a walk, go for a jog, relax at one of the many cafees while enjoying the beautiful views of the Lakes.
You can also just sit around on one of the many benches surrounding the Lakes and just watch life pass by you. During the summertime water cycles and small boats can be rented, and the Lakes can be enjoyed from the waterside.
