If you want to eat green, sustainable and organic food, Copenhagen is a good place to satisfy your hunger. The number of organic and environmentally conscious cafés, delis and restaurants is growing all the time. Here you will find a small selection of eateries.

BioMBioM

All ingredients are organic in this small restaurant in the district of Østerbro. Even the paint used on the walls. The people behind BioM started the place based on one simple question: Why go out for dinner and have a meal filled with pesticides, when your shopping otherwise is organic?

The three owners found their answer by opening a quality conscious restaurant with moderate prices. On the menu are light dishes such as salads and sandwiches, but you can also order more substantial main courses, soups and desserts.

BioMioBioMio

The large organic restaurant BioMio, in Copenhagen's fashionable meatpacking district, has room for 250 people. Here they serve organic, healthy and tasty food at reasonable prices in a laid back atmosphere.

On arrival you are given a chip card, and then you collect your own food and drink straight from the chef - a bit like a canteen - and pay at checkout. The self service concept helps to keep prices down and quality up.

The menu has dishes from most parts of the world, and you can enjoy your meal at one of the long tables. Watch film further down.

The restaurants only use electricity from energy sources like windmills, hydropower and biofuels.

The restaurant chain also invests in environment-friendly products when buying new. It has replaced light bulbs with high energy comsumption to compact fluorescent light bulbs, where possible, and water taps have been fitted so that the tap water is mixed with air. Potentially this can reduce water consumption by 50 percent0.

Klima+ restauranterCopenhagen Climate+ restaurants

In addition to organic restaurants, you can find a large selection of so-called Climate+ restaurants that have committed to serve at least one Climate+ menu consisting of two to three environmentally-friendly dishes.

It could be dishes consisting of more vegetables and less meat, where seasonal fruits and vegetables are included, and the ingredients have not been transported to Copenhagen from the other side of the world. In short, dishes which have been prepared with consideration for emitting less CO2.
