Before you leave home, read Danish author Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale The Little Mermaid aloud to your family. Once you have arrived in Copenhagen, take a trip to Langelinie and take a close look at the famous little lady, Copenhagen's landmark. She will turn 97 years old in 2010, but she does not look a day over 25! Note that The Little Mermaid will be in China for the most of 2010.

If you need to ease your mind for a couple of hours, take a walk through The Botanic Garden in Copenhagen. Despite its central location it is a peaceful oasis that houses 13,000 different plants and Denmark's largest collection of living plants. The large glass bulding is an attraction in itself and houses a collection of palm trees. Copenhagen has a number of other green areas, where you can relax, sunbathe or have a picnic. Several parks also have fine playgrounds for the kids.

Children also get to clamber on board a viking ship and imagine they are sailing into the world of the Vikings - they can even dress up in copies of the costumes of the day. Admission is free.
