With two new world-class jazz events, Copenhagen is still one of Europe's best jazz cities.
It is all ready a fact: Copenhagen is a Mecca for jazz lovers. For over 30 years, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival has been held every July, often with more than 250,000 visitors from all corners of the world.
With two major new additions to the festival offering even broader and nuanced jazz, this number can hardly be expected to go down.
New jazz festival
As well as the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, there will also be Valby Summer Jazz this year. The festival is being organised by the Danish jazz musician Benjamin Koppel, and will take place from 2 to 11 July in parallel with the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Valby Summer Jazz will be showcasing 20 of the world's best jazz musicians in a cosy and intimate atmosphere just ten minutes from the centre of Copenhagen, and at affordable prices.
Epic venue reopening
Yet another internationally-renowned Danish jazz musician is running the other new jazz event of the year. On 1 May, jazz pianist Niels Lan Doky reopened the legendary Montmartre jazz venue. From its opening in 1959 up until 1995 it was an internationally renowned jazz club attracting many of the biggest stars of the jazz scene.
Nils Lan Doky is now attempting to rebuild that momentum in the club's original location in the heart of Copenhagen. And it's not just the music which is world-class at Montmartre - the top-class food and wine menu makes it a paradise for gourmets too.
