My Copenhagen with DQ
Denmark's contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 2007, DQ (Drama Queen), is ready to charm the audience and viewers at the semi final and final May 10 and 12 in Helsinki. The 34-year-old singer and entertainer, aka Peter Andersen, has been in show biz for ten years and has just released his album titled "Drama Queen". Although he now lives with his husband Lukkass and their three Chihuahua dogs south of Copenhagen, he resided in Copenhagen, in the areas of Frederiksberg, Vesterbro and Nørrebro, for more than ten years.
What do you like about Copenhagen?
Copenhagen has something for everybody. It is a very versatile city, which has everything that can be expected of a capital city. Personally, I love the café life, and the entertainment scene has a lot to offer by virtue of the many theatres, cinemas, music venues, bars and clubs.
As a homosexual, what attracts you to Copenhagen?
Copenhagen, and Denmark, is a very open society, where you as a gay person can walk around hand in hand without people staring at you. Of course there are stupidity like in every other city, but generally Copenhagen is a very tolerant place. Moreover it is a beautiful city with many possibilities for gays, like restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs.
Where do you shop for clothes in Copenhagen?
I only shop for clothes when it is really necessary. I am such a bad shopper! But when I need new clothes then I like to shop in the small streets in the shopping area around "Pisserenden" (means the Piss Gutter, aka Larsbjørnsstræde) in city centre and in Karl Smart on Værnedamsvej in Frederiksberg. I usually go for the small, alternative shops, where the clothes are unique.
Where would you go to have a good night out?
I am the kind of person who likes to visit at least 20 places in one night, so I would start out in Masken Bar & Café in Studiestræde and then continue to Jailhouse Cph, also in Studiestræde. After that I would go to Centralhjørnet and then onwards to Never Mind, the club in Nørre Voldgade. My last stop would be Cosy Bar back in Studiestræde.
Where do you go for a good meal?
If you like Thai food, and I do, then there is a fantastic Thai restaurant called Khun Juk Oriental in Boltens Gård (Store Kongensgade). It is elegantly decorated, and the food is delicious, not typical Thai food, like the sort you get in Thailand, but newer and more European in the way it is cooked. If I fancy a traditional Danish meal, I go to Københavner Cafeen in Badstuestræde. It offers tasty food in cosy surroundings, and the staff is fabulous!
Vote for DQ and Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest semi finals on Thursday May 10 and final on Saturday 12.
