Denmark has a well-established tradition of stability and democratic rule going back to the age of the Vikings. The country has a one-chamber parliament called Folketinget consisting of 179 members, based in Copenhagen at Christiansborg. Approximately 30 per cent of the members are women.
Prime minister
In February 2005, a coalition government led by the Liberal party (Venstre) was reelected for another four-year period. The government was led by Anders Fogh Rasmussen up until early 2009, when Lars Løkke Rasmussen replaced him as prime minister.
Denmark is a member of the European Union, the United Nations, NATO, and the Nordic Council.
