Wellness Copenhagen - Where Body Meets Mind

Inviting a working group for a couple of days of pampering is not pure luxury and fun, but an investment that can give a good return. Meeting culture has recognised the potential of spa hotels and wellness centres and Copenhagen has options for all sizes of groups.

Jacuzzis, steam baths and saunas are not just activities reserved for your spare time. To an increasing extent they are also on the agenda during working hours, as more and more companies discover that idea development, creativity and creative teamwork flourish better when combined with a little luxury for body and mind. In other words, the wellness wave is over us and Copenhagen offers a wide range of opportunities for combining a conference with spa and various wellness treatments.

Awaken your senses in Copenhagen's new exclusive Spa

Luxury treatments the celebrity way
Hotel D'Angleterre*****is one of the oldest hotels in the world, and the oldest in Denmark. For 250 years this grand building located at Kgs. Nytorv at the end of the main pedestrian street Strøget and just opposite the Royal Theatre, has played host to royalty, presidents, film stars and many other celebrities. Hotel D'Angleterre offers a wide range of stylish meeting facilities, of which Palmehaven with room for 400 is the largest. The hotel has a superb gourmet restaurant and - a spa and fitness centre Arndal Spa & Fitness. The spa and fitness centre is managed by author of several books on healthy living, Lotte Rye Arndal who has also lent her name to this beautiful refuge at Hotel D'Angleterre. With this latest addition to the old hotel's facilities, new possibilities have opened up for business groups to stimulate creativity with a combination of meeting activity and wellness.

Arndal Fitness & Spa spells absolute luxury and features an elegant heated swimming pool, a spa section and various fitness equipment - all with free access for hotel guests. The staff at Arndal provides a wide variety of massages and treatments. The products used - oils, scrubs, moisturisers - are organic and have never seen a shadow of synthetic additives.

Spa with ocean view
Just 20 minutes out of Copenhagen City facing the blue Øresund water is Skodsborg Kurhotel & Spa****. For business groups, Skodsborg Kurhotel & Spa is a wonderful opportunity to meet in luxurious surroundings somewhere away from the busy city, without spending much time travelling. Situated in a beautiful spot by the water and bordering the huge Dyrehaven - the Deer Park - the possibilities of combining work with physical activity, invigorating walks on the beach or in the woods are many. The hotel's extensive spa offer is incorporated into tailor-made business meeting packages with sessions of massage, facial treatments or herbal baths. The package can also include mind-body activities to relieve stress and promote creativity.

Of course, health and vitality also has a little to do with what you eat. The menu at Frederik & Louise, the hotel restaurant, is inspired by the international spa-kitchen. The dishes are a delight to all senses and, although based on correct dietary principles, are made for enjoyment in every sense of the word. Skodsborg Kurhotel & Spa can host conferences with up to 100 participants in one room. The hotel has five large meeting rooms and 10 break-out rooms.

Spa with Meeting Designers
Further up the Øresund coast you find the conference hotel Comwell Borupgaard****, another white palace of health surrounded by beautiful North Sealand nature and with rich opportunities to combine work and pleasure. Comwell Borupgaard has recently turned a 650 square metre mansion into a luxury spa with 20 exquisitely designed treatment rooms, and a "wet area" comprising swimming pool, hot and cold pools and numerous types of baths. Comwell Borupgaard has 30 meeting rooms, the largest of which can hold 340 people.

Comwell are Scandinavian pioneers in wellness and run a number of spa hotels throughout Denmark and Sweden. Comwell are also pioneers in alternative meeting concepts and offer consultancy by a meeting designer who will help organise a meeting schedule to optimise idea development, focus and energy.

The idea behind the health spa and conference concept is to create a 'realm of the mind' where health activities, treatments, training, food and meetings combine to ensure that participants gain the optimum benefit, enabling everyone to make a better contribution.

Everything under one roof
DGI-byen is a meeting place for culture, business and sports located in the centre of Copenhagen close to the central station. Offering a vide variety of sports facilities, conference and meeting facilities, party and banquet rooms, a three star hotel, restaurants, cafés, water culture house and spa, DGI-byen is a lively congress and leisure centre complex used by locals, tourists and business people alike.

The DGI-byen spa features everything in the way of Jacuzzis, steam baths, hot and cold tubs and saunas, and offers almost any product, treatment and service that a wellness-heart desires. An old-style bubble bath is on the spa menu, but why be conservative when you can immerse yourself in hot water with relaxing scented oils or deep cleansing salt or green algae. Whichever type of bath you choose, it always comes with iced water and fresh slices of fruit. The sauna runs a different theme every week, such as Finnish style, Native American Sweat Lodge, Roman or Turkish baths.

Oriental style in the medieval city
An old city house in the middle of the busy Købmagergade, the pedestrian high street off Strøget, is home to Ni'mat and its four floors of Oriental inspired wellness and meeting facilities. Wooden beams, slanting walls and creaking old staircases only add to the charm and intimacy of this little shrine to luxury and wellbeing. At Ni'mat you can take your business partners or employees for a real treat and combine work with true pleasure for body and mind before, after or in between meeting sessions. Ni'mat offers a wide range of massages, a four-hand massage being the house speciality. After a good work-over you can slip into an aromatic steam bath or, another Ni'mat speciality, a bubble bath under open sky on the beautiful terrace surrounded by the characteristic old yellow painted houses in the medieval part of Copenhagen. Besides breakfast Ni'mat lunch and dinner, Thai style, Japanese or Danish/French, from some of Copenhagen's best restaurants. Ni'mat can host meetings with up to 25 participants.

Facilities without meeting facilities
As a result of the recent wave of popularity of wellness treatments, a number of new spa places have cropped up around Copenhagen city. Mirage Spa & Kur by the City Hall Square offers candlelit spa and treatments in elegant and luxurious surroundings and stays open till late in the evening. Philoleum is a small and intimate wellness place, offering spa-packages and all kinds of facial and body treatments. Frederiksberg Svømmehal, one of Copenhagen's oldest public swimming pools, has recently undergone a thorough renovation including the addition of a luxury department with steam bath, sauna, coldwater pool, massage chairs and jet-massage tubs. They also offer a range of body scrubs, salts and aromatic bath oils. Øbro Svømmehal at the other end of town is virtually the same story - an old public swimming pool and bathing establishment converted with wellness in mind, and with a special spa offer. The swimming pool itself has a Roman feel to it, with pillars supporting the glass roof, which lets in beautiful daylight to make the swimming experience one of utter pleasure.
