New Conference Center in the heart of Copenhagen

Expansion at DGI-byen continues apace. In June 2007 its new parking lot accommodating 200 vehicles was opened, and in July the first sod was turned for a new conference centre comprising a vast 450-seat auditorium, several smaller conference rooms, a 200 square metre outdoor terrace, and spacious lounge and lobby areas throughout. The conference centre is scheduled for completion on 1 May 2009.

Strategically located beside Copenhagen’s Central Station with easy access to Kastrup Airport and city centre hotels on its doorstep, the new centre will be highly attractive to foreign businesspeople, as well.

The new conference centre is part of a major expansion plan adopted by DGI-byen in 2006. “Over the past few years we’ve noticed a rise in demand for conference facilities catering for the 200-500 participant bracket. An ideal framework for this middle group has been lacking, until now, that is”, explains Niels Dalsgaard, Director of DGI-byen & Øksnehallen. “Øksnehallen is exceptionally well suited for major events catering as it does for between 500 to 3000 people. This new centre will make it even more attractive to schedule conferences with us, and avail of all our other amenities here at DGI-byen & Øksnehallen”.

DGI-byen is a meeting place for sport, culture and business. Any size conference at DGI-byen can be supplemented with an array of fun, healthy and enriching activities.

DGI-byen runs three hotels and Europe’s only five-star, multistorey, designer youth hostel, with a total of 271 hotel rooms and 192 youth hostel rooms. Its third and latest addition, Hotel Astoria, is furnished throughout by GUBI, one of Denmark’s leading design firms. Hotel Astoria opened its doors anew in June 2007 following radical renovation.

DETAILS

The DGI-byen Conference Centre consists of a large auditorium with total seating capacity for 450, which can be divided in two when necessary, and eleven smaller conference rooms facilitating between 25 and 115 people. The top floor of the three-storey building is given over to a restaurant with panoramic views over the roofs of Copenhagen.

Several conference rooms on the second floor open out onto a wide terrace. All conference rooms have large, street-facing windows, a terrace or atrium. Lounge and lobby areas are light and flexibly furnished to facilitate creative and alternative gatherings.
