Copenhagen MICE News Bulletin, April
Copenhagen Airport increases its capacity
Several of the airlines serving Copenhagen Airport are currently expanding their capacity. Several new routes will open in 2007 while others will increase their frequencies. This means that the Danish capital will be connected with even more cities around the world. In October SAS will open a new route to Dubai, but already in March both Sterling and SAS have opened new routes to Burgas, Split and Pristina. This will be followed by new routes to Edinburgh, Biarritz and Kangerlussuaq/Søndre Strømfjord opening up in May. Meanwhile, in June Iceland Express will commence operating from two Icelandic destinations, Egilsstadir and Akureyri. Furthermore, many airlines will increase their frequency to several other destinations, among them New York, Stockholm, Brussels, Geneva, London, Atlanta and Luxemburg. Copenhagen is connected to more than 135 airports around the world and is Northern Europe's main traffic hub. www.cph.dk
Affordable flights to Copenhagen Airport
Copenhagen Airport has developed an increasingly strong profile within the low cost sector. During 2006 low cost traffic increased to 2.8 million passengers, thereby increasing LCC traffic share by no less than 41% compared to 2005. With this increase low cost traffic constitutes 13.3% of current total traffic. The largest LCC carrier to Copenhagen Airport is Sterling, followed by easyJet and Norwegian, although this could change with Air Berlin's continuing increase in the Copenhagen market share. www.scandinaviasHub.com
SAS offers complementary IP telephony in Copenhagen Airport lounge
The Scandinavian airline SAS has recently launched a new concept: complementary telephone calls via IP telephony in their lounges in Copenhagen Airport. SAS offers two lounges in the airport, a business lounge and the Scandinavian lounge. Both lounges are equipped with the latest technology and offer the perfect break for busy business travellers. Among other facilities, the lounges offer access to computers with high-speed Internet connections and widescreen displays; telephones; massage; and newspapers and magazines. The complimentary facilities are a part of a larger concept that has brought the latest technology to all SAS lounges throughout the world.
At the same time, SAS has introduced a new environmental system, with the purpose of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Customers wishing to offset their impact on the environment will have the option of paying a specific amount by way of compensation, equivalent to the kilos of carbon dioxide they are releasing during their journey. This money will be directed to projects in the Third World, which are trying to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions in that part of the world. The option to voluntarily offset carbon dioxide emissions is a transitory solution until 2011 at which time aviation will be included in the EU Emission Trading Scheme. www.scandinavian.net
