Roskilde Festival is Ready
167 names are on the poster, and lots of new exciting initiatives have been prepared for this year's Roskilde Festival from June 25 - July 2. Legends like Bob Dylan, Guns n' Roses, Morrissey and Roger Waters will be on stage. The tickets? Well, they are selling like hot cakes!
Roskilde Festival is ready to rock for the 36th time. No less than 167 names are on this year's poster, and 102 of them are new, surprising treats. The focal point is the music - where the strongest and most interesting artists are on this year's programme, which has been proclaimed to promise the best Roskilde Festival in many years.
A Musical Cornucopia
This year's festival will be a musical cornucopia of rock, jazz, indie, metal, heavy, urban, hip hop and electronic music. Among the new acts in 2006 is The Strokes who our bookers have been chasing since before the band even had a record deal. This summer the band finally plays Roskilde Festival. Other exciting new acts are Death Cab for Cutie, Editors, Him, Kaiser Chiefs, Kaizers Orchestra, Damian JR., Going Marley and The Raconteurs. Also new big boys Kanye West, Tool, Franz Ferdinand, The Streets, Sigur Rós, Arctic Monkeys, Placebo and Rufus Wainwright are to strut their stuff.
Legends on the Move
Bob Dylan, Guns n' Roses, Morrissey and Roger Waters - need we say more? The names practically speak for themselves. They all have a great impact, not only on their own generation of music lovers, but also on those to come. And a fantastic experience is guaranteed when screens and a quadraphonic sound system flank Roger Waters' performance of the entire Dark Side of the Moon.
Danish Appearances
The Danish scene flourishes. A number of young Danish artists having merely released their debut album are playing Roskilde for the first time: Natasja & Ragga Pack, Pato, Pallarin & Lenler, Melk, Rumpistil, Spleen United, Veto, Volbeat and WhoMadeWho. And as always at Roskilde, you can listen to a number of popular and well-established Danish acts this year, e.g. Kashmir, L.O.C., Under Byen and Jens Unmack.
A Total Experience
Along with the music, the total experience is created with art, performance, food, party and a high service level. The festival warm-up begins on June 25 and lasts for 4 days. On June 29 the festival programme kicks off and lasts for another 4 days, ending on July 2. 75,000 tickets are for sale, and the ticket price is DKK 1,350 (Euro 180). Tickets include all 8 days together - and are not sold for single days (except for Sunday when a one-day ticket can be bought for DKK 550 (app. Euro 70.00)). The audience comes from all over the world - and again in 2006 more than 50% are expected to come from outside Denmark.
