Leading up to the Climate Conference COP15 in December 2009 an entire carbon neutral music and arts festival is to be held in Copenhagen from 4 - 6 September 2009.

Around two years ago an architect and a journalist who believe that the future's climate solutions are about taking an optimistic approach, breaking old habits, and finding new innovative solutions got the idea to a CO2 neutral festival.

CO2PENHAGEN Festival is to be run entirely on renewable energy, and CO2PENHAGEN aims to integrate design and aesthetics with new technologies and renewable energy, all to be lit by LED lighting. The installations at the festival, including scenes, bars, and light installations, receive energy from plants that produce renewable energy. Some of the key words at the festival are - absorption cooling, solar heating, Stirling engine, bio diesel, second generation bio-ethanol and waste disposal - and the aim is that the festival will prove that green energy can coincide with great design.

The idea behind is to get artists, engineers, designers, architects, journalists, and chefs to work together in new ways and to inspire each other. Working across disciplines in this manner is what generates new technological solutions and helps to break old habits. It also creates an opportunity to find new solutions by using already existing climate technology and integrating it with design, architecture, festivals, restaurants, and so on.

CO2PENHAGEN is among the first 100 members of the United Nation's Climate Neutral Network and winner of the Climate Cup Innovation Prize 2008.
The festival is part of Copenhagen Design Week and is to be held at the Technical University of Denmark which is also a partner in the festival.
