From Sunday 7 February and the rest of 2010 you can ride the S-trains in Copenhagen and North Sealand for free every first Sunday of the month.
The first Sunday of the month is usually a big shopping day in Copenhagen, as the shops and shopping centres are open contrary to other Sundays.
From Sunday 7 February and the rest of 2010 it will be easier, quicker and free to get around between shops, malls and shopping areas.
Free Sunday - as the initiative by Danish transport supplier DSB is called - means you can ride all S-trains in the capital region on the first Sunday of every month without a ticket.
Free excursion outside Copenhagen
Besides using the S-train to go shopping, you can also travel outside Copenhagen to explore North Sealand, attractions, museums, cinemas, restaurants and parks.
"Now for example you can take your whole family on the train to the forest for free, and you can even bring your bikes onboard free of charge. As of 15 January it has been free to take your bike on the S-train," says sales director Niklas Marschall, DSB.
The S-trains go all the way up to Hillerød and Klampenborg north of Copenhagen, to Frederikssund west of Copenhagen and Køge south of Copenhagen.
S-train Sunday schedule
The S-trains run every 20 minutes on Sundays. All lines pass through Copenhagen central station, and thus you will find that the S-trains in central Copenhagen run frequently.
