Beaches and harbour baths

In Copenhagen and North Sealand you are never far from the coast - at the most 30 minutes no matter where you are. The region has more than 400 kilometers of coastline, and much of it has been given the Blue Flag guaranteeing clean water. This year visitors and locals get four new outdoor bathing facilities.

Harbour baths season starts the first week in June and closes down for winter 31 August 2010. Opening hours are daily from pm. 7-19, at weekends from 11 to 19. However if it rains the harbour bathes can be forced to close for a period, to make sure that the water quality is always top class.

Islands brygge - familieIslands Brygge

The harbour bath at Islands Brygge was the first to open in Copenhgen. You will find it 115 meters south of the Langebro Bridge. There are a total of five basins; two of these are for children. The capacity is approximately 600 persons. From Monday to Friday the harbour bath at Islands brygge opens at 7am for those wanting to take a morning swim.

Copencabana

Close to the shopping mall Fisketorvet is  nother of the Copenhagen Harbour Swim Baths, with the popular name of Copencabana. Three basins cover approximately 650 square meters. There is a children's pool, a diving pool and an ordinary pool for exercising, and three life savers are constantly on duty.

Amager Strand - barn hopperAmager Strandpark

Amager Strandpark is an artificial beach, which was inaugurated in 2005, very close to the centre of Copenhagen. 4.6 kilometers of white sand beach was laid out for recreational purposes. You can rent kayaks, have a massage on the beach, there are places reserved for small bonfires so you can bring a picnic and grill your own meat, several kiosks cater to your wishes and mobile stalls offer ice cream and cool soft drinks.

Amager Helgoland

A nother choice on a warm day is the sea bath Amager Helgoland. It is under construction, but will be ready for use in June with wooden deck and pools. A temporary building with toilets are ready to use - but no changing rooms yet. Amager Helgoland is open every day from 10 am to 18.

Kastrup Søbad, called The Snail

Kastrup Søbad - aftenA little further down the coast is Kastrup Søbad, which is connected to Amager Strandpark by a long wooden bridge. This beach is smaller and boasts an architectural piece of the rare kind - called The Snail because of its shape. The centre of the beach is the beautiful 600 square meter wooden bathing platform. Built on 150 poles in the water and made of African Azobe tree, which is hard as steal and does not rot. The depth ranges from 2 - 4.5 meters.

Bavnehøj

Bavnehøj Outdoor opens in June 2010 in a newly renovated and very child friendly version. Bavnehøj now has a 25 meter long pool, a play pool and a natural playground in the surrounding near the basins. The facility is open every day from 10-18, and Tuesday and Thursday from 7 am.

Bellahøj swim stadium

Bellahøj also opens with new outdoor facilities this summer. The outdoor facilities are connected to the modern swimming stadium, and include two 25-meter pools, and water play area including water slides. The area is open from 15 June 2010.

New beach in Østerbro

Ishøj Strand - barnefødder20 June 2010 Østerbro will get the new beach Svanemøllestranden. After years of cleaning up, the water quality is now so good that locals and visitors will have a beach, combined with a pier. The creation of the new beach was a part of the Copenhagen Municipality's efforts to become an even more 'green and blue' city.

Bellevue Strandbad

In Klampenborg, about 10 kilometers from downtown Copenhagen, is Bellevue Beach. The beach is five minutes' walk from both Klampenborg S-train station and Dyrehaven. The beach is 700 meters long and has both lifeguards and freshwater showers on the beach. The beach is just off the picturesque fishing village, Tårbæk, and right next to Strandvejen at the Arne Jacobsen-designed Bellevue Theatre.
