Beaches and harbour baths

In Copenhagen and North Sealand you are never far from the coast - at the most 30 minutes no matter where you are. The region has more than 400 kilometers of coastline, and much of it has been given the Blue Flag guaranteeing clean water.

After several years of concentrated efforts to improve the water quality on the Copenhagen waterfront, regular control has proven the water to be so clean that it is safe to use for bathing and include in the leisure programmes for outdoor activities in the capital.

The open air swim baths begin the season during the first week of June and close down for the Winter during the first week of September. Opening hours are daily from 11:00 to 19:00. Following heavy rainfall it may be necessary to close down temporarily. This is to ensure that the water quality at all times is tops.

Ishøj Strand - barnefødderCopencabana

Close to the shopping mall Fisketorvet is one of the Copenhagen Harbour Swim Baths, with the popular name of 'Copencabana'. Three basins cover approximately 650 square metres. There is a  children's pool, a diving pool and an ordinary pool for excercising, and three life savers are constantly on duty.

Islands brygge - familieIslands Brygge

Another harbour bath is Islands Brygge, 115 metres south of the Langebro Bridge. There are a total of five basins, two of these are for children. One for the very young and one for juniors. All children under eight years must, however, be acompanied by an adult. The diving pool has a three and a five metre pool. Capacity is approximately 600 persons. From Monday to Friday the harbour bath at Islands brygge opens at 7am for those wanting to take a morning swim.

You do not have to travel far to get to a beach when you are visiting Copenhagen. The capital has two public beaches close at hand.

Amager Strand - barn hopperAmager Strandpark

Amager Strandpark is an artificial beach, which was inaugurated in 2005, very close to the centre of Copenhagen. 4,6 kilometres of white sand beach laid out for recreational purposes. You can rent kayaks, have a massage on the beach, there are places reserved for small bonfires so you can bring a picnic and grill your own meat, several kiosks cater to your wishes and mobile stalls offer ice cream and cool softs drinks.

Kastrup Søbad - aftenKastrup Søbad

A little further down the coast is Kastrup Søbad, which is connected to Amager Strandpark by a long wooden bridge. This beach is smaller and boasts an architectonial piece of the rare kind. The centre of the beach is the beautiful 600 square metre wooden bathing platform. Built on 150 poles in the water and made of African Azobe tree, which is hard as steal and does not rot. The depth ranges from 2 - 4,5 metres.
