If you are going north of Copenhagen, further away than Hillerød and Elsinore (Helsingør) with public transportation, you need to use the local trains, Lokalbanen.North Sealand is well worth a visit with its beautiful sandy beaches, green forests, interesting museums and child-friendly summer towns. While the DSB and Kystbanen trains will get you to Hillerød and Elsinore, you will need to travel on one of the five local train routes, if you want to go further into the region.Frederiksværkbanen runs between Hillerød and Hundested and stops in Frederiksværk. Gribskovbanen runs between Hillerød and Tisvildeleje. Hornbækbanen runs between Elsinore and Gilleleje and stops in Hornbæk. Lille Nord-banen runs between Elsinore and Hillerød and stops in Fredensborg. While Nærumbanen runs between Nærum and Jægersborg. The characteristic yellow trains are bright and modern. And like in the rest of the capital region, you can take your bike, pram or dog on the train.
