Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art

The name, "Den Frie", derives from the group of artists who ganged up to open this exhibition building as a protest against the rules for having works admitted to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts exhibitions.

Den Frie Exhibition was the first artists' association to be founded in Denmark, and for that reason Den Frie Exhibition has a significant role in Danish art history.

Today Den Frie Exhibition has 39 members, and every year it presents an exhibition in Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art. 

Today mainly contemporary art is shown.
