Women Artists of the Avant-garde 1920-1940

  • Dora Maar: Sans titre Photo by Pr-foto

The art world might sometimes seem a bit male-dominated, but that does not mean that the women do not have anything to offer. This spring Louisiana focuses on the often overlooked female artists.

With the exhibition, Woman artists of the avant-garde 1920-1940, Louisiana presents eight of the most prominent female avant-garde artists and their extensive artistic works.

The exhibition shows how these artists made a decisive contribution to the aesthetic innovations that took place during those years. The eight artists were pioneers - and striking personalities - who acted at international level.

With about 200 works the exhibition shows the diversity of aesthetic directions from Dada through constructivism to surrealism, and it seeks to demonstrate and put into perspective the similarities and connections between those artists who flourished in painting, photography, collage, design, film and sculpture.
